Marriage
Proposing, engagement, divorce, and the cooldown in between.
The flow
Propose
/marry propose <player> sends a proposal. Both must be single. The target gets a
message with a clickable accept or decline, and the proposal expires after
proposal.timeout-seconds if nobody answers.
Accept or decline
/marry accept or /marry decline. Accepting sets both players to engaged.
Get married
Engaged couples go to a church and run the ceremony. There is no way to get married without one.
Divorce, if it comes to that
/marry divorce asks for confirmation, /marry divorce confirm goes through with it,
charging fees.divorce and clearing both records.
Calling off an engagement
An engaged couple who change their mind use the same two commands. /marry divorce
while engaged asks to call off the engagement, /marry divorce confirm ends it for both
partners. There is no fee and no cooldown, both can propose again straight away. If a
ceremony is already running for the couple, it is cancelled and the marriage fee is
refunded.
Vowbound is not gendered. Any two players can marry, and nothing in the plugin's own messages says "bride" or "groom", only "partner".
Proposals
proposal:
timeout-seconds: 60
max-distance: 0max-distance in blocks, 0 disables the check entirely so proposals work at any range.
A proposal already pending, to or from either player, blocks a second one until it is
answered or expires.
Divorce and the cooldown
divorce:
cooldown-hours: 24Divorcing charges fees.divorce and clears status, partner, shared home and church for
both players. cooldown-hours then blocks either ex-partner from proposing again until
it has passed, tracked from the moment the divorce went through.
Resetting a relationship
/marry admin unset <player> puts a player back to single whether they are engaged or
married, and does the same for the partner on the other end. /marry admin unset <player> <partner>
resets both named players in one go. No fee is charged and no divorce cooldown is applied,
and a ceremony running for either of them is cancelled with a refund.
Vowbound also checks that both halves of a relationship agree. If a player's record says engaged or married to someone whose own record does not point back, that player is reset to single on their next login, or the next time they propose, divorce or start a ceremony, and told why. The console logs a warning naming the player.
Fees
fees:
marriage:
value: '100'
type: coins
divorce:
value: '50'
type: coinstype is coins for an economy fee through Vault,
or xp, experience, levels or l to charge experience instead, so a fee works with
no economy plugin installed at all.
The marriage fee is charged when the ceremony starts and refunded in full if the
ceremony is ever cancelled, declined, or times out. See the ceremony
for exactly when that happens.
Checking on a marriage
/marry info [player] shows single, engaged with who, or married with who and since
when. /marry list [page] lists every married couple on the server, paginated.
