Vowbound

A marriage plugin with a real ceremony. Propose, get engaged, walk into a church, say your vows, and get married in front of whoever came to watch.

  • Spigot 1.21.4+
  • Java 21
  • Requires eco
  • FancyNpcs, Citizens or built in

Why this one

Three things most marriage plugins do not do

01

A real ceremony, not a command

Getting married is not one command. The couple walks to an altar, the Father speaks a welcome, each partner speaks a vow, both confirm, and only then are they actually married, with rings, fireworks and a server wide announcement.

Every line, every delay and every sound in that sequence can be changed in the config, so what the ceremony says and how long it takes is yours to set.

The six ceremony phases in order: procession, welcome, vows, the question, pronouncement, cleanup, each one an arrow into the next.
02

Three ways to show the Father, your choice or none at all

If FancyNpcs is installed, the Father shows up through FancyNpcs. If Citizens is installed instead, he shows up through Citizens. If neither is, Vowbound spawns a plain villager itself, and everything still works exactly the same either way.

You can also force a specific one instead of leaving it to that order.

See the priority order
Three ways to show the Father tried in order: FancyNpcs first if installed, otherwise Citizens if installed, otherwise a plain villager Vowbound spawns itself, which always works.
03

Built on eco, not another database

Vowbound stores nothing of its own. Marriage status, partners and settings all go through eco, which the server owner already has pointed at Yaml, MySQL or MongoDB.

That also means Vowbound picks up whatever storage the rest of the server is already using, with nothing extra to set up, and no separate database section hiding in Vowbound's own config either.

Where marriage data actually lives
Vowbound drawn as a thin layer sitting on top of eco, with arrows down into eco's own persistent data layer, menu system, item lookup system, price system and config updater, and a separate arrow from eco's persistent data layer down into whichever storage backend, Yaml, MySQL or MongoDB, eco itself is configured to use.

Quick start

Running in about two minutes

Four steps from an empty server to a working proposal.

  1. 1

    Install eco

Vowbound is built on the eco framework and will not enable without it on the server.

  2. 2

    Drop in the jar

Start the server once to generate config.yml, menus.yml and the three shipped language files.

  3. 3

    Set up a church

/marry admin church create, then setcorner, setaltar, setfather and setentrance from where you stand.

  4. 4

    Propose

/marry propose <player>, accept, walk into the church, and start the ceremony.

Full installation guide

FancyNpcs and Citizens are both optional. Neither installed still works.

Everything is documented

Every config key, every command and every permission has a page. If something is still unclear, ask in the Discord.
