One Arena Mode
Every kit in one shared arena. Players pick a kit they own in the lobby instead of picking an arena
NovaFFA runs in one of two modes, and a server is always in exactly one of them.
- Link mode, the default. Every kit is linked to its own arena. Picking a kit picks the arena, so the sword players are in the sword arena and the axe players are in the axe arena.
- One arena mode. The links are ignored. There is one arena, every kit is fought in it, and a player picks whichever kit they own from the lobby before going in. A sword player and an axe player end up in the same fight.
One arena mode is a switch, not an extra way to join. While it is on, the whole plugin works the one arena way, and while it is off, nothing about it shows. Turning it off again brings every link back exactly as it was.
Which one do I want
| Link mode | One arena mode | |
|---|---|---|
| How many arenas | One per kit | One for everything |
| What picking a kit does | Sends you to that kit's arena | Sends you to the one arena with that kit |
Kit links (/ffa arena edit <arena> link) | Required, a kit with no link cannot be joined | Ignored, saved for when the mode is off |
/ffa join <arena> | Joins that arena with the kit linked to it | Joins the one arena with the kit you picked last |
| Menus read from | menus/ | menus/one_arena/ |
%ffa_players_<arena>% | Players in that arena | Everyone, since everyone is in one arena |
{playing} on a kit button | Players in the kit's arena | Players in the arena using that kit |
| Good for | Separate kits that should not meet, a lobby of portals or NPCs, one NPC per arena | A single big FFA where people bring whichever kit they like, a server selling kits |
Kit prices work in both modes, see Kit Prices and Rewards. They are most often used with this one, since "unlock kits with coins and bring them to the arena" is what one arena mode is built for.
Set it up
Build the arena
Make one arena the way you would in link mode. It needs a spawn, and corners if you want it to regenerate or protect its blocks. See Arenas and Regeneration for the full set.
/ffa arena create main
/ffa arena edit main corners 1
/ffa arena edit main corners 2
/ffa arena edit main spawn
/ffa arena regeneration main saveYou do not need /ffa arena edit main link <kit>. Any link it has is ignored while the mode is on.
Make the kits
Make every kit players can pick, as usual. Hold the items and run /ffa kit create <name> for each one, then dress them up with a display name and an icon. See Kits.
/ffa kit create sword
/ffa kit create axe
/ffa kit create potTurn the mode on
Open config.yml, scroll to the bottom and fill in one_arena:
one_arena:
enabled: true
# The arena everybody is sent to
arena: main
# The kits offered in this mode. Leave it empty to offer every kit
kits: []Then run /ffa reload. No restart is needed, the mode switches on the spot.
Decide which kits are offered
kits: [] offers every kit you have made. To offer only some of them, list them:
kits: [sword, axe, pot]A kit left out of the list does not appear in the fight menu, and joining it by name answers that it is not offered here. The kit itself is untouched and comes back the moment you add it to the list.
Put prices on kits, if you want to sell them
Install Vault and any economy plugin, then give a kit a price:
/ffa kit edit axe price 1000
/ffa kit edit pot price 2500A kit with no price stays free. A kit with a price shows as locked in the fight menu until the player buys it. Pay players for kills with economy.kill_reward so they can earn their way to the next kit. The whole economy side is on Kit Prices and Rewards.
Edit the one arena menus
The mode reads its menus from plugins/NovaFFA/menus/one_arena/, a full second set of the menu files. The fight menu there is already worded for one arena, "pick any kit you own and fight everyone in one arena" rather than "join an arena". Change it as much as you like, menus/ is left alone and is what link mode keeps using. See Fight Menu.
Try it
Run /ffa, click a kit, and you land in the one arena with it. Pick a different kit from the menu and you go back in with that one instead. Two players on two different kits are in the same fight.
How it behaves
- Every way in leads to the one arena. The fight menu,
/ffa <kit>,/ffa play <kit>and a menu item withjoin: <kit>all send the player to the configured arena with that kit. /ffa join <arena>uses the last kit. An NPC or a sign running/ffa join mainsends the player in with the kit they picked last. Somebody who has not picked one this session gets the fight menu opened for them instead, so the kit is always their choice.- Kits refill as themselves. With
on_kill.give_kit_againon, a killer is handed the kit they picked, not some kit the arena happens to be linked to. The same goes for the kit handed back after a regeneration. - Switching kits mid fight is held back by the combat tag in exactly the way it always was, through
combat_tag.block.kit_switch. %ffa_kit_name%and%ffa_kit_display%read the kit the player picked.- Premium and build flags still apply. The arena's
premiumandbuildsettings work as normal. Build is one setting for the whole arena, so kits that need to place blocks and kits that should not are better kept to link mode, or the arena left buildable. - Pinned squares are shared. A kit pinned with
/ffa kit edit <kit> slotkeeps that one square in both modes. If the one arena fight menu has a different layout and the square is not one it draws kits into, the kit simply flows in with the rest there. /editkitslists the offered kits only, the same ones the fight menu shows.- A typo is reported at start. If
one_arena.arenanames an arena that does not exist, orone_arena.kitslists a kit that does not exist, the console says so on start and on every/ffa reload. - Links are kept, not deleted.
/ffa arena edit <arena> link <kit>still saves the link while the mode is on, and tells you it is ignored for now. Turn the mode off and every link works again.
Switching back
Set one_arena.enabled to false and run /ffa reload. Menus go back to menus/, every kit goes back to its linked arena, and nothing that was bought is lost, since owned kits are kept per player whatever the mode.

Config
| Key | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
one_arena.enabled | false | Turns the mode on |
one_arena.arena | '' | The arena every kit is fought in. It must exist, with a spawn |
one_arena.kits | [] | The kits offered. Empty offers every kit |
Files
Both sets are written out on every start, so the set you are not using is always there to edit before you switch.

Common questions
No. A server runs one mode or the other, which is what keeps both of them simple. If you want both, the closest thing is link mode with several kits linked to arenas that sit side by side.
No. Without Vault every kit is free and players simply pick any kit. Vault is only needed for prices.
No. A kit is handed out fresh on every join, so letting players walk out with what they were holding would let them leave with a full kit, come back for another and repeat. Leaving the arena empties the inventory exactly as it does in link mode.
No. Kits, arenas, links, layouts and statistics are read the same in both modes. Turning the mode on and off again changes nothing on disk except the one line in config.yml.
