Game Modes
The three HoeWars modes and how they differ.
HoeWars has three modes. They share the same core (paint the floor, biggest share wins) but differ in size, length, and whether results affect your rank.
At a glance
| Mode | Players | Match length | Min to start | Affects rank and ELO |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ranked | 10 | 4 minutes | 6 | Yes |
| Unranked | 10 | 4 minutes | 4 | No |
| Deathmatch | 4 | 90 seconds | 2 | No |
These are the default values. Every number above can be changed per mode in config.yml. See Configuration.
Ranked
The competitive mode. Wins here count toward your rank tier, and every match adjusts your ELO based on how you placed against the field. Use this mode if you care about climbing the ladder. Needs more players to start than the other modes so matches stay full and fair.
See Ranks and ELO for how placement changes your rating.
Unranked
Same size and length as Ranked, but results do not touch your rank or ELO. Good for casual play, warming up, or full lobbies that just want to paint without pressure. Your general stats (wins, matches, blocks) still update.
Deathmatch
A fast, small mode. Four players, ninety seconds, a quick countdown. Built for short bursts and filling quiet servers. Results do not affect rank or ELO.
Joining a mode
Use the command or the main menu:
/hoe join ranked
/hoe join unranked
/hoe join deathmatchOr run /hoe to open the menu and pick a mode there. See Commands.
Arenas per mode
Each arena is set to one mode. When you queue for a mode, the plugin picks an enabled arena for that mode and clones it. If no arena is available for a mode, the match cannot start. See Arenas for how to assign a mode to an arena.
